People living with diabetes are at a significantly higher risk of developing cataracts at an earlier age. In Pakistan, cataract remains the leading cause of blindness, accounting for 51.5%–82.4% of all blindness cases. An estimated over 570,000 adults are blind due to cataract, with up to 3.56 million eyes currently in need of surgery. Importantly, approximately 85.5% of blindness in Pakistan is avoidable, with a higher burden seen in rural communities, among women, and in individuals over 30 years of age.
Through this initiative, the Diabetic Association of Pakistan provides safe, high-quality cataract surgeries to underprivileged diabetic patients who otherwise cannot afford timely treatment—helping prevent avoidable blindness and its long-term social and economic consequences.
Your continued trust enables the Diabetic Association of Pakistan to fight preventable blindness and bring hope to thousands of families across the country.
